Afghanistan

In the hornets´s nest that is Afghanistan it is easy to win a war but imposible to achieve peace. Since the fall of the Taliban regime in December 2001, the violence of the war has made the country a complex trap where a solution to the conflict looks like a very  though prospect indeed.

Outside the capital of Afghaistan, international forces have been unable to stem the advance os the Taliban, who already control the south-eastern half of the country, bordering with Pakistan. From their stronghold in Kandahar province, the guerrillas have grown strong by trafficking in the heorin - the revenues of wich  are use to finance their weapons purchases - and this has made the region into a hell -on -earth for the civilian population . It is a sourde of revenues used not only by the Taliban. The warlords and senir goverment officials have made use of theur "aghan narcos", turning this new Afghanistan, originally a result of the war on terror, into a "narco-state".

Corruption has put paid to all hopes of making a hones living in Afghanistan. In a country where seventy percent of the population subsists on less tha one euro per day, each family pays and average of seventy-eight euros per day in bribes.

Afghans no longer trust internation aid organizations either. Half of the money destined to rebuilding the country and humanitarian work has been lost on the way or has returned to donating nations in the form of porfits and salaries for the companies contracted.

An endless string of disasters condemns Afghanistan to continue to live without peace.
